Sabine Marcelis - Mirage

A series of mirrors inspired by the warm sun shining on the desert sand and the shimmering city lights of Dubai.

This work captures the energy of nature and the vibrancy of its urban life. As the shapes and the colors shift, these dualities harmonize in whispers of light and reflection. The mirage fades as we embrace all the possibilities it invites us to imagine.

I was commissioned by Sabine Marcelis to photograph her series of four mirrors across several locations in Dubai to connect with the main themes this body of work was inspired by.

Roots

The mirrors were photographed in the old Bastakiya neighborhood of Dubai, which has been preserved and that offers a peak into the origins of the country.

Sand

The mirrors were photographed in the middle of the UAE desert as an homage to the humble beginnings of this country.

Urban

The mirrors were photographed on the roof of a skyscraper offering views of the bustling Dubai skyline, symbolizing the incredible rise of the city from its humble Bedouin beginnings.

Sabine Marcelis – Light Horizon Series

I was commissioned by Sabine Marcelis to photograph her complete installation at Noor Riyadh Art & Light Festival 2022.

Encapsulating the theme, “We dream of new horizons”, Light Horizon consists of 11 staggered glass columns. During the day, these cast a myriad of light reflections and shadows defined by their varying orientations. By night, Light Horizon comes to life; the pillars light up from within, turning them translucent, completely changing the feel and concept of the piece. The scale of the artwork allows the audience to wander through and immerse themselves within the larger-than-life horizon to seek out their own slice of this unique experience.

Claudia Comte – A Monument to the Disappearing Forests Series

I was commissioned by Claudia Comte to photograph her complete installation at Noor Riyadh Art & Light Festival 2023.

“Monuments to the Disappearing Forests” can be perceived as a forest that comes to life in the desert light. A group of eighty spruce trunks set in a grid. Each trunk is lined with an LED strip that is synched to animate the totality of the installation as something that breathes, lives and glows up before disappearing in the dark of the night again. A dance of light and form, an homage to what artificial intelligence cannot replace; dying ecosystems versus resilient lifeforms surviving own Earth.
